Event's Mission

Through the Expo we promise “We will help you to be more successful.”  As a result, this event is free and targets anyone who has an interest in keeping and displaying aquaria in the home.  We intend to help attendees to be more successful by sharing information, exposing them to new ideas, and connecting them with local aquarists who will inspire them to go deeper in the hobby.  Over the following months, attendees will be encouraged to participate in our monthly meetings and organized programs.  As a nonprofit organization, our mission is altruistic and not in any way commercial.

Held in the beautiful Hagfors Center (Augsburg University) at the invitation of the Augsburg Biology Department, the one-day Expo will feature the following:

  • A dozen presentations and panel discussions. Varied topics, some for advanced and some for beginners. (topics)
  • Over 100 display tanks. (accessible to media Thursday and Friday prior to event)
  • Hourly Spotlight of a different “fish room” by local MAS members.
  • Demos of live foods for fish
  • Hourly raffles of product by our sponsors
  • Surrender event (we accept unwanted fish and find them new homes)
  • Marketplace room for fish, plants, driftwood, and other hard-to-find items for serious aquarists
  • MAS members willing to connect and to offer advice and information

Admission is free.  Our location sponsor, Augsburg University biology department, is providing us with a spacious, upscale venue centrally located just off I-94.

Media Opportunities

"Interest" story line

Randy Carey is a the co-chair for this Expo.  He attributes MAS as helping him do more and be more successful.  Thus his vision of focusing this event on helping others become more successful.  Thought the "gurus" and encouragement within this group, Carey has bred over 200 species of fish, built a fishroom of over 70 aquaria, collected fish in the Amazon, and gained a national reputation (speaker at over 40 cities, author for the national aquarium magazine, and contracted to write a book).  Carey attributes MAS as providing the motivation and opportunities to do things he would not have been able to do on his own.  There are other success stories to be told from the membership, and this is the motivation and goal of the Aquarium Expo.

Previous Displays

Because this is a new venue with a new approach, we don't have photos to show you how the display rooms will look, but we can show some examples from previous events.   images are clickable
