In order to hold elections during the August General Member Meeting, a few modifications to our bylaws must be made. The Board of Directors is putting forth amendments to three sections of the current bylaws.
Section 4.1.a & 4.1.b – Allows elections to be delayed in the event of an unsafe situation and allows elections to be held in person, electronically, or via mail in ballot.
Section 1.3.b – Removes language that denies members the ability to vote for Directors/President electronically.
Section 7.5 – Expands electronic voting to cover all types of membership in all situations.
Our first order of business will be to bring these proposed amendments for a vote. Please take time to review the proposed modifications (this page for the new version, and this page showing the changes) and the current version of the full bylaws (current bylaws) prior to our August meeting.
Our goals is to hold accessible elections in the current COVID-19 health climate – these three sections amendments provide the Minnesota Aquarium Society with the tools to make an August election possible.
Beyond August, the Board of Directors is planning a larger overhaul of the Minnesota Aquarium Society’s bylaws to simplify, clarify, and build in contingencies for major emergencies. Members will have the chance to review and vote on the overhaul once completed and approved by the Board of Directors.
