Presentations

Each hour choose a presentation that piques your interest.  Many of these will be discussions led by a panel of local experts.  Get to meet them.  Discover the knowleged and experience they have to share.  In every presentation you will have the opportunity to ask quesitons and even meet these experts afterwards.

Visit the Presentations page for the complete list and summaries.

Displays

Explore the display room showcasing over 100 aquaria.  Take your time viewing the displays set up by some of the best aquarists the Twin Cities has to offer.  Grouped by theme, you can study the fish and plant groups that interest you, such as cichlids, livebearers, catfishes, aquascaping, and more. Throughout the day local experts will be standing nearby to answer your questions or explain what your are viewing.

Fishroom Spotlight

"Fishroom" - a room of tanks for an aquarist to practice his/her art of keeping fish and plants.

Each hour a different MAS member will be the guest explaining his fishroom with photos and fielding questions from you.  These fishrooms represent diverse approaches based upon the interests and goals of the aquarists.  We'll be posting the summary and scheudle for each fishroom so that you can plan to see the spotlight discussion for those that pique your interest.

Live Food Demonstrations

Get up close to see the live foods that many aquarists cultivate and feed to their fish.  From the microscopic to wingless fruit flies to meaty worms.  The demo table is managed by the enthusiastic Troy Felch who raises live animals for TransMississippi Biological Supply.

Marketplace Room

Not only will you leave the Expo inspired, but you will be able to talk to local'niche' sellers and leave with hard-to-find fish, plants, driftwood, and aquarium-related supplies.

Hourly Raffles

Every hour we'll be placing several items up for raffle.  Equipment, fish food, fish, plants, magazine subscriptions.  Even if you can attend for only an hour or two, you can purchase some tickets and give the raffle a try.  All purchases help us to finance this Minnesota event.

Behind the Scenes Tour - Augsburg

Our host and partner, the Augsburg University Biology Department, will be offering behind-the-scenes tours to small groups.  Professor Bill Capman will explain the design and functioning of the state-of-the-art coral reef/marine aquaria he maintains in the lab.  Also hear about the marine breeding lab Bill is getting set up.

One-on-One Advice

Throughout the day M.A.S. volunteers will be wearing green Expo t-shirts so you know who you can ask for advice.  Having a problem with your tank?  Looking for a local expert in some area? Are you considering a project to build your own room of tanks?  Want to try something new like breeding, preparing live foods, high-tech planted tanks, aquarium photography, or similar?  Just ask a volunteer to connect you with the right person.

Connecting

How often do you get a chance to connect with others who share your passion in this hobby?  We are local hobbyists from beginners to master aquarists.  We have found that we are better at what we do by sharing our passion, experiences, and knowledge.  Come to the Expo and meet us.  Get to know us.  You may find that you would like to join us   -- and we'll be happy if you do.

Helping You to Be More Successful

We are local aquarists who gather monthly to share information, experiences, and even fish and plants.  Learn from seasoned aquarists.  Allow yourself to be motivated to venture deeper into this hobby and to accept new challenges.  We'll be there to help you find the resources you need, the advice you will be seeking, and the encouragement to be more successful.
